Back from Leadership Texas
I have just returned from my last Leadership Texas conference feeling inspired and saddened all balled up in my heart. This has been a year long journey building friendships, learning, learning and more learning, and so much fun enjoying new friends and becoming close girlfriends by the end of this journey. You know we need our girlfriends! You may be thinking that throwing 100 outspoken, opinionated women together is a recipe for disaster... well frankly, it would be. But in this environment, we all come together to learn, grow and to put out on the table our opinions, thoughts and passionate views. We also deeply respect one another and those independent views that we bring to the table. Straight talk never got in the way of building our relationships that will allow us to find a path to accomplishing missions that will help us make positive change to our State.
I am not a native Texan but have lived here for more than fifteen years and am a transplant in the state. Since I was a daughter of a serviceman, better known as a "military brat" moving my family to Texas some fifteen years ago was no big deal. Now, for the first time in fifteen years, I begin to feel like I am a Texan. It is in my blood now. And Leadership Texas is a big part of how my feeling for the state has transpired. Texas has its own growth problems but.... none that we can't handle with inspired women such as those sisters in the class of 08! The great 08!
